What will happen if Imran loses the no-confidence vote

Opposition parties have filed a no-confidence motion against Prime Minister Imran Khan in Pakistan's National Assembly. The no-confidence motion is scheduled to be put to a vote on Sunday. Opponents allege that Imran Khan has pushed Pakistan towards economic and political instability. However, Imran alleged that the opposition was plotting to oust him with the help of foreign powers. He even claims that there is an attempt to kill him.

Imran Khan's party took a stand against some members of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI). Opposition groups called for a boycott of the assembly. After that Imran Khan was under pressure to lose the majority. Imran Khan's PTI coalition government is claiming to have lost a majority in Pakistan's National Assembly after the main coalition partner Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan (MQM-P) joined hands with the opposition last Wednesday.

Proof of a majority in the 342-member Pakistan National Assembly requires the support of 162 legislators (MNAs). But with the loss of key allies and party rebels, support for Imran Khan's government has waned. The PTI has 142 members in support of the government, according to Geo News. On the other hand, 199 MNAs are in favor of the opposition. Imran Khan needs the support of 182 members to oust him. But much more MNAs are now in favor of the opposition. If Imran Khan is ousted, then speculation has started about how the next prime minister will be elected.

Proposal The rules and procedures of the National Assembly, the lower house of Pakistan's parliament, state that if the post of Prime Minister becomes vacant, the National Assembly will begin the process of electing a new Muslim Prime Minister without any debate or anything else. Any member of the National Assembly can nominate himself or any other Muslim candidate for the post of Prime Minister. However, one's name cannot be given twice. Once the names of the candidates for the post of Prime Minister have been finalized in the National Assembly, the names of the candidates will have to be sent to the Secretary by 2 pm on the day before the election of the Prime Minister. Verification-sorting

The Speaker will scrutinize the nomination papers in the presence of the candidates and their proposers or supporters (who are willing to be present). If he is not satisfied, he can cancel the nomination paper considering some issues. The reasons why the Speaker has the power to cancel the nomination of a candidate are:

    If the candidate is not a Member of National Assembly (MNA).

    If Rule No. 32 is not followed in the election of the Prime Minister.

    If the signature of the proposer, second person or candidate is forged.

After these verifications, the power to accept or reject nomination papers is in the hands of the Speaker. If the nomination paper is rejected, the Speaker will briefly state the reason.
The provisions of the National Assembly further state, "The decision of the Speaker in respect of the acceptance or rejection of the nomination papers of the candidates for the post of Prime Minister shall be final."
Withdrawal of nomination

A candidate has the power to cancel his candidacy as Prime Minister at any time before the vote in the National Assembly to elect a new Prime Minister

Voting

On the day of election, the speaker will read out the names of the candidates. If the candidate is one and the candidate gets the votes of the majority members, the Speaker will declare him elected. But if there is no majority vote, this is where the electoral process will end. The Speaker will again start a new process in the Council.
However, if there are two or more candidates and no candidate gets a majority in the first round of voting, then the two who get the most votes will vote again. If the votes of the two candidates are equal, then there will be a vote to elect one of them until one of them gets a majority

When the Prime Minister is elected
